Hegu - Colon 4

Hegu - Colon 4

I absolutely love this point, it's a real clearing point. It's great for headache, toothache, sinus pain, cold & flu. It's a point that when combined with other points will really move the Qi and blood around the body, settling emotions and clearing your mind. It's also an oxytocin point, when you have reached 40 weeks in your pregnancy we can needle this point to make the body produce oxytocin. This will help start contractions while softening and opening the cervix.

Tips...

  • At 40 weeks firm massaging of this point can help bring on labour. If you are having mild tightenings or contractions then rub this point while the contraction is happening, stopping the pressure when the contraction stops. Then with the next contraction swap to the other hand and apply pressure while the contraction is happening. This will build more oxytocin for stronger contractions.
  • If you use this point throughout your labour like I've explained above, it will also help to take the edge off the contraction pain. Such a dynamic point, you the birthing woman can use this yourself. Such a useful tool to have in labour.
  • Also, if you have a headache, anything aching in your face or you're thinking too much, rub this point and you will feel the relief.

Best, Tabitha
