How Grief Affects Our Lungs Through the Eyes of TCM
How interesting that when we go through a grief process our lungs can be affected with physical symptoms.
In TCM each organ has a specific emotion associated with it.
If the organ is not working that well we can feel its specific emotion more dominantly or if we are feeling a dominant emotion for a prolonged time this then can affect the organ and give us physical symptoms.
So I'm writing about this as we recently lost Brad's Mum after a long fight with cancer and through our grief we all experienced varying lung symptoms. Dry cough, deep tiredness, tickling dry cough and tightness of breath was our main symptoms, all TCM lung pathology.
So the things that we did was regular acupuncture, resting often with lots of water, moderate exercise and stretching. We made up batches of chicken soup with extra garlic and ginger plus slow cooked meals that supported our digestion.
We also hugged lots which made us cry and then the laughter would flow at the memory of our beautiful Jan.
Love to all those who are going through grief, it's a sticky emotion and something that you can't push through. Support is definitely needed while riding the waves of loss.
